Inspired by Bluey's Cartoon
Hi everyone !
I am presenting to you today my final render made especially for the project The Window by The Rookies.
When I firstly heard the subject of this monthly challenge, I knew I had to exploit the idea that was scratching my brain for a while. I wanted to do a close up inspired by Bluey's cartoon that I love to see in a few episodes.
Bingo, Bluey's sister, is a little dog full of curiosity, who's always searching for a new adventure. Calmer and softer than her sister, she tends to see the little details and seems to love observing small insects living their life.
My main reference for this subject was this scene in the ninth episode of the season two of Bluey which is called Bingo :

I started to gather some references to see what I could to make this 2D design in 3D and I chose The Garfield Movie because I really like how they made the groom and how they managed to stay loyal to the comics feature and make beautiful 3D.

I started by taking a recent sculpt that I made which was firstly representing Bluey and cut the parts that I didn't want, which means everything below the nose.

Next, I did the Shading on Substance Painter and I finally played with the filter stylisation. I did a simple surfacing because I knew I wanted to do some groom on it after.

Next, I did the hardest part of the project : the Groom. I followed the way of the dogs had their hairs in Xgen Core. I started to place the guides.

After I had painted my mask, I added a first clumping guided by the guides, a second one guided by generated guides, a noise to add some variations, and then a Cut.

Then, I converted it into Xgen Interactive to avoid any complications during the Batch Render. I shaded it with Renderman using the PxrMarschnerHair and the PxrHairColor via the UVs scalp.

When I finished Bingo, the second part was to do the assets and the decor.
I started by the decor to set the camera as soon as I could and make the assets to match with what I wanted to have. I firstly made a little window inspired by the Heeler's house in the cartoon and an edge to later put an ant on it.

I made the blueberry entirely. I did a simple modelisation and shaded it with Substance Painter again. I made it in Subsurface (from Renderman) to add a little spice to the rendered result.

I had a little help for the project from Benjamin Garandel, who did the little ant in modeling and shading. He also used Maya and Substance Painter.

Next, I did the lighting. There are 4 stages that I did to separate as much as I could to freely do my compositing.

and here's the Brut version of the rendered image :

I did a simple compositing on Nuke The Foundry. I started to add some blur on Bingo just to have this impression that her nose is really close to the window and I simulated the presence of glass.

Next, I did the color correction of the layers and I added some lifting to give the impression of an atmosphere and Lightwraps to simulate the drooling of light on the assets.

I finally added a background to have Bluey and Bingo's room and I used a CatsEyeDefocus node to have nice Bokehs in the back.
I also added a global color correct to contrast the picture, a eFibonacciGlow, a chromatic abberation, a apVignette and finally a Iblur to simulate the impression of a macro effect. And I finalised the picture with a GrainAdvanced.

Thank you for reading until here ! I hope you liked my project !
